George Clinton once said, “funk not only moves, it can remove, you dig”. It can also go in many different directions at the same time. The alignment it now takes comes in the form of “Tempovision”. A truly brilliant piece of production that melts so many musical styles down into a simmering stew of jazz, blues, hip hop, R&B, house and club\dub. Tempovision is the brainchild of one Etienne De Crecy. Described by some as the ‘Parisian house guru’, De Crecy has played a key role in the resurgence and frenetic, fanatical expansion of the Paris dance scene. His ‘disco-genius’ has never been before so fully realized than on Tempovision, a damn near perfect album in every way. DeCrecy has said that he was trying to capture a very special sound thru Tempovision and that the concept grew out of a rhythm inspired when one begins to channel surf. Indeed, if MTV ever gets a hold of these ground-breaking, claymation-animation hybrid videos we could very well be on the verge of an enormous domestic cult smash (De Crecy already has a huge international notoriety and fan base).

This ultra-rhythmic chiller works just as good whether its being played at an early morning Rave party or late evening dimly lit bedroom. I found myself pulling the shades in the early afternoon and turning this up loud just to lean back in my favorite recliner and free my mind into cacophonic euphoria. These are grooves to get busy by, or to wind down and “Relax” to. DeCrecy continues to produce his distinctive brand of high-end, quantum electronica with seditious, insurgent beats and throbbing bass. Tempovision is an absorbing, creative explosion that is just as invigorating as it is relaxing. Take a cut like “When Jack Met Jill”. Remnant of some early 90s DeLite, only thicker, the groove seems to percolate over dreamy synth riff as P-Funk’s Belita Woods croons her trademark bluesy vociferations like only she can. Micheal “Clip” Payne (also from the P-Funk crew) makes some funk-felt appearances on this effort. And then the title track, where a sumptuous, yearning beat enamors your whole spirit. This is music that implores you to forget about and let go of whatever faults, shortcomings, defects or constrictions you have and become totally uninhibited and immersed in elated release. Although wishful thinking, everyday aught to be a “3-Day Weekend”, and thanks to DeCrecy’s spherical construction of Tempovision, it is.
