Bubbling up from this seemingly unending sea of performers now comes the Funky Taurus Universe. A millennial ‘psychotic bump skool’ with a faculty of long time Clinton co-creators fronted by non other than the Funky Taurus herself- Hanover , Germany & Detroit’s own homegirl throwin’ down in the tradition of a post-Tricky Rick Teena Marie. The girl has got mad vibe, energy and wit bustin’ out all over this neat lil’collection of 5 lasciviously slinky mixes on her latest single, “E=MC Squared”.
Long time P.Funksters will indeed be glad to see some long overdue familiar names making up The Funky Taurus Band. Folks like keyboard wizards Amp Fiddler and David Chong Spradley. Parliament’s Jerome “Bigfoot” Brailey on drums. Funkadelic bassist Billy Bass Nelson popping the fat bottom as well as horn players Rick Gardner and the superb Greg Boyer.
“E=MC Squared” is a lesson in groovy physics. Like the formula suggests the groove is fluid; its all relative as the Funky Taurus transcends time, space, and even language (check out 2 German mixes). The squiggly keys and effects and looping bass construct a very loose and flowing arrangement that not only rocks but smolders the dance floor groove.
The formula here is simple: kibbles and bits of futuristic synth licks bouncing all over fat, thick bass around a heavy mid tempo beat. And she funks you up with that saucy vibe of hers with thick ,sensual vocals and witty smart assed raps. The child has got style, funk, snazzle and the potential of true self-contained staying power all rolled up into one dazzling package of potent musical acumen. Stay tuned for the album produced by George Clinton himself. It’s definitely got me fiending for some new Funky Taurus Funk.
